A Restorative Desert Escape, with Room to Breathe

Some landscapes are best experienced at speed. Uluru is best experienced with time.

Your base, Outback Hotel, offers a relaxed environment to unwind after daily outdoor adventures, with convenient options like Outback Kiosk for casual meals, Outback BBQ and Bar for laid-back evenings, and a quick resort shuttle to Town Square. During your downtime, enjoy hotel amenities such as the swimming pool, guest laundry, shared kitchens, and shaded spots for relaxation. Over five days, allow for early mornings, mindful walks, regional cuisine, and peaceful breaks, approaching this vibrant cultural site with curiosity and respect.

This thoughtfully designed itinerary is ideal for wellness travellers looking to reconnect, travel with purpose and immerse themselves in nature.

From Ayers Rock Airport, take the complimentary airport transfer to your hotel reception. Once you arrive, ease into the resort pace. This itinerary is designed to be flexible, with alternative options built in so you can adjust each day around heat, energy levels and how much you want to fit in.

Day 1: Arrive and Ease into Desert Time

Afternoon: On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport, take the complimentary transfer to Outback Hotel. Leave your bags with reception if your room is not yet ready. Enjoy lunch at Outback Kiosk for casual burgers, sandwiches and grab-and-go style meals, or choose a sit-down meal at Walpa Lobby Bar for share plates, salads, light meals and relaxed drinks. Keep the afternoon simple: unpack, spend time by the pool or take the free shuttle bus to Town Square to explore the shops

Evening: Join Wintjiri Wiru Sunset Dinner for sunset dining and a chapter of the ancestral Mala story sacred to Anangu shared through light, sound and drones. If you want a shorter or lighter option, consider Wintjiri Wiru Twilight with wine, cheese and dessert around twilight, or Wintjiri Wiru After Dark if you prefer to dine separately and focus on the show. For a quieter first night, have dinner at Geckos Cafe for pizzas, pastas and casual mains or Mangata Bistro and Bar for bistro-style plates and native ingredient-inspired dishes.

Day 2: Walk, Listen and Connect with Culture

Morning: Set out on the ranger-guided Mala walk at the base of Uluru. Walk, listen closely and learn about Mala Tjukurpa and the cultural significance of this place. Carry water, wear sun protection and choose supportive footwear. If you would prefer something gentler, choose a shorter self-guided section like Kuniya Walk.

Lunch: Continue to the Cultural Centre for lunch at Ininti Cafe, where you can keep it simple with cafe-style options, snacks and drinks. Take time to explore the Cultural Centre respectfully and visit Maruku Arts and the gift shop. If you would prefer to return to the resort, choose an easy-going option such as Outback Kiosk for burgers, sandwiches and casual meals, Geckos Cafe for pizza, pasta, salads and familiar cafe-style favourites, or Kulata Academy Cafe for barista coffee, sandwiches, pastries and lighter bites.

Afternoon: Return to the resort for An Ancient Story Takes Flight at Arkarni Theatre, one of the complimentary guest activities that introduces the story behind Wintjiri Wiru.  Afterwards, rest by the pool, read in the shade or take a short walk up to Imalung Lookout at the resort.

Evening: Enjoy an early dinner at Mangata Bistro and Bar for bistro-style dishes, light meals and native ingredient-inspired flavours, or Ayers Wok Noodle Bar for a quick noodle, rice or stir-fry option. Then choose the Field of Light option that best suits your pace: Field of Light General Admission for a simple self-guided after-dark walk, Field of Light Star Pass for sunset views, canapes and hosted context, or Field of Light Uluru Dinner if you want to combine the installation with an all-inclusive buffet dinner under the outback sky.

Day 3: Move through Kata Tjuta, then restore

Morning: Take the Uluru Hop On Hop Off bus to Kata Tjuta for the Valley of the Winds walk, a 7.6 kilometre loop. Begin early, carry plenty of water and check current park conditions and walk access before setting out. If you want a gentler option, choose Walpa Gorge instead, a 2.6 kilometre return walk.

Lunch: Return to the resort for an easy lunch at Walpa Lobby Bar for share plates, salads, light meals and drinks, or Pira Pool Bar for refreshing drinks and lighter bites.

Afternoon: Book a massage or treatment at Red Ochre Spa. Advance bookings are highly recommended. If the spa is unavailable, keep the afternoon simple with pool time, a cool shower, quiet reading, gentle stretching or a short walk at golden hour.

Evening: Experience Tali Wiru, an open-air dinner on a private dune top with fine dining, matched Australian wines and native ingredient-inspired flavours. If you would prefer an alternative dining experience, consider Sounds of Silence for a social buffet-style bush tucker-inspired dinner under the stars or a relaxed meal at Arnguli Grill and Restaurant for premium grilled meats, seafood and regional flavours.

Day 4: Uluru Sunrise and Explore the Base of Uluru

Morning: Visit a designated sunrise viewing area in Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. Ask your hotel reception about the availability of a takeaway breakfast pack in advance, and bring layers for the cool early morning. Explore Uluru at your own pace. Complete the 11 kilometre base walk if conditions, time and energy allow, pausing at Mutitjulu Waterhole and respecting all signage and culturally sensitive areas. If you'd like to take it easy, join a cycling tour around the base which includes transfers.

Lunch: Return to the resort for lunch at Pira Pool Bar, where you can enjoy casual poolside snacks, salads, burgers, easy casual meals and drinks between swims.

Afternoon: Keep the afternoon flexible with resort-based options. Join a free guest activity such as the Bush Yarns or Paint Your Own Australian Animal, visit the Gallery of Central Australia, spend time by the pool or return to Town Square for coffee and shopping before dinner.

Evening: Dine at Ilkari Restaurant for a buffet-style option with salads, seafood, grilled dishes, desserts and a broad mix of international flavours, or Outback BBQ and Bar with a do-it-yourself grill, fresh meats, hearty sides and a relaxed, social dining experience. Afterwards, join an Astro Tour, where you will venture to a dedicated viewing area within Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park, and gaze at stars, planets and deep sky celestial objects with computerised telescopes.

Day 5: A Final Sunrise and Gentle Farewell

Morning: Begin the day with Sunrise Journeys, an early morning light and sound experience inspired by the artwork created by three Anangu women. After the show, settle into a native-inspired buffet breakfast as the desert shifts into morning light, with comforting local flavours and signature chai tea creating a gentle final taste of the Red Centre. It is a nourishing, unhurried way to welcome the day before returning to the resort for check-out.

Late morning: Join the complimentary Guided Garden Walk to learn more about the plants surrounding the resort or choose another free guest activity such as a visit to the camel farm or time exploring the resort galleries such as Gallery of Central Australia. If you would rather keep this window open, use it for packing, stretching, journalling or one last quiet coffee. After check-out, leave your luggage safely with hotel reception.
