Enjoy a Bush Tucker Buffet Under the Red Centre Sky

An experience so good it’s in the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame? Sounds like a perfect date night to us! The evening starts on a dune top that overlooks Uluru and Kata Tjuta. Here, you’ll enjoy Outback-style canapes and sparkling wine while watching the desert colours change as the sun sets. The distinctive sound of the didgeridoo will provide a comforting hum as you settle down at your table to experience the Sounds of Silence.

Next, your three-course meal begins. Staff will stop by throughout the feast with a selection of Australian wine and beer to sip on while soaking in stunning desert scenes. As the night sky comes to life, you can visit an interactive chef’s station to choose items from a bush tucker-inspired menu made with Indigenous ingredients.

After dinner, it’s time to look up and get lost together in the southern night sky as a star talker guides you through the cosmos visible in the sky above. You’ll have plenty to talk about the rest of your holiday as you stargaze and find planets, distant galaxies, and the Southern Cross constellation.

Field of Light and a Nightcap

Another date night in the desert that visitors to Ayers Rock Resort simply can’t get enough of! The Field of Light Uluru exhibition was first installed in the desert in 2016. What was initially supposed to be a temporary art installation is now here indefinitely. While different Field of Light exhibitions by Bruce Munro are set up worldwide, the idea all started when he was visiting Northern Territories camping in the desert with his fiancée.

It’s a sight to behold, with 50,000 spindles of lights covering more than seven football fields of ground. The exhibition is named Tili Wiru Tjuta Nyakutjaku, which means ‘looking at lots of beautiful lights’ in the local Pitjantjatjara language. With the Field of Light Pass, you and your special someone can take a self-guided walk through the exhibition at night.

Date night doesn’t have to end after taking in this illuminating display. Head back to the resort and get comfortable and cozy at the Walpa Lobby Bar for a nightcap. While the full menu is available until 5:30pm, bar bites are available on the late-night menu. So if you’re looking for something delicious to go along with a glass of wine, native-infused cocktail, or mocktail, you’re in luck.
