Sails in the Desert

Read about the planned refurbishment and renovations at Sails in the Desert, commencing 25 January 2019, as well as a brief overview of the immediate scope and duration of the stages.

Sails in the Desert refurbishment update

Created: Friday 10 August '18

We are delighted to announce that the investment and rejuvenation of Ayers Rock Resort continues with a program to refurbish Sails in the Desert bathrooms and an upgrade to the air conditioning system. The refurbishment will be undertaken in two phases, the first commencing 25th January 2019.

The centrepiece of the new bathroom will be a contemporary walk-in shower with a combination overhead rainwater and handheld fitting replacing the existing shower over bath. Complementing the shower will be a suite of modern fixtures and fittings including vanity, mirror, toilet, flooring, wall tiles, ceiling and lighting. As we work hard to make our flagship hotel even more inviting, we want to assure you that we will make the refurbishment periods as easy as possible and with minimal impact on your stay.

Please find below a brief overview of the immediate scope and duration of the planned works:

Refurbishment of Superior Room and Terrace Room bathrooms

The refurbishment will occur in a staged manner, where small blocks of rooms will be taken out of inventory, with a “buffer block” allocated on each side to minimise guest impact.

Duration: the project is split into two phases
Phase one: 25th January 2019 to 26th June 2019
Phase two: 4th November 2019 to 30th June 2020

Hours of work: 7am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 7am-12 noon Saturdays

Noise: Some noise expected. No loud works permitted before 9:00am

Air pollution: None expected

Visibility of work: Limited. Majority of work to be completed inside room blocks and away from guest view

Flow of workers: Guided through back of house areas wherever possible, minimal impact to guests

Existing and new bookings: during this phase, minimal guest impact is expected, therefore new bookings will be accepted (subject to availability at time of booking) and existing bookings will be honoured.

We hope this offers a guide of what to expect during the refurbishment.

The progress of the refurbishment will be updated regularly here. Rest assured that the refurbishment period will occur with minimal impact, if any, on your stay.

Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience during the refurbishment works.
