4-Day Ultimate Short Break Itinerary

For the ultimate short break spend three nights and four days discovering the heart of Australia. With over 65 tours and activities on offer you can plan for action-packed days. Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park presents a great alternative for a long weekend away or your next short break.

Ayers Rock Resort features five distinctly unique accommodation options from the five-star Sails in the Desert, and award winning Desert Gardens Hotel, to the self-contained Emu Walk Apartments, the authentic Outback Pioneer Hotel & Lodge to the Ayers Rock Campground.

DAY 1

  • Fly into Ayers Rock Airport and take the 10-minute courtesy transfer to your hotel.
  • After settling into your hotel, have a relaxed lunch at Pira Pool Bar.
  • Join one of our many free Indigenous guest activities including the lively Wakagetti dance at the Resort Town Square Lawn area.
  • One hour before sunset, you'll be collected from your hotel, and taken to a secluded sand dune in the desert. As a didgeridoo player weaves his magic enjoy a welcome drink and a selection of outback-style canaps. As the sun sets, feast on a BBQ buffet of authentic Australian delicacies. Attention then turns to some of the world's best stargazing, as our star talker takes you on a tour of the spectacular southern night sky

DAY 2

  • Arise to a scrumptious and personalised breakfast experience with the international menu at Ilkari Restaurant, located at Sails in the Desert.
  • After breakfast, discover the local flora with our Indigenous guided garden walks at Desert Gardens Hotel or Sails in the Desert. Learn how Indigenous people traditionally lived by using the bush for food and medicinal purposes
  • Take a helicopter ride for picturesque views of the Red Centre. Discover the enormity of the region with views over both Uluru (Ayers Rock) and Kata Tjuta (The Olgas)
  • Listen to the enchanting sounds of the didgeridoo while enjoying lunch at the Resort Town Square. Male guests have the opportunity to try it for themselves. You may like to purchase a didgeridoo at the nearby Craftworks and learn with your own instrument.
  • Visit the Mulgara Gallery, located at Sails in the Desert, where you get to meet and watch talented artists from the 'Artist in Residence' program at work.
  • Experience the do-it-yourself BBQ at the Outback Pioneer BBQ and kick back and enjoy the nightly entertainment at the Outback Pioneer Bar

DAY 3

  • Wake early and join the Desert Awakenings tour. Before sunrise travel by bus into the outback, where a light breakfast is served as the sun rises over Uluru. The tour provides an introduction to the natural and cultural landscapes of this remarkable region and includes a visit to Mutitjulu waterhole in the shadow of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and stops off at the Cultural Centre
  • Enjoy lunch back at the Resort at one of the many restaurants and cafes and take a refreshing dip in one of the pools around the Resort
  • After lunch discover the massive ochre domes of Kata Tjuta (The Olgas). Stroll into the grand recesses of Walpa Gorge and appreciate why Aboriginal people found this place so important.

DAY 4

  • This morning discover the great Central Australian desert from the back of a camel and enjoy billy tea and freshly baked beer-bread as the sun rises over your final day
