A great way to explore the Central Australian desert
A great way to explore the Central Australian desert

Another great way to explore the great Central Australian desert is from the back of a camel. Camels, ideally suited to the hot, dry climate of Australia's interior, were imported in the 19th century and remained the principal means of outback transport until railways and roads were established. Today there are an estimated 200,000 one-humped, dromedary type camels in the wild. Only a few are still used by humans, mostly for touring the fascinating ecology of the desert.

Camel to Sunrise or Sunset

You'll travel for an hour at a relaxed pace, accompanied by an expert guide pointing out wildlife and plant life, and regaling you with colourful anecdotes about life in this remarkable region. All this, with the most breathtaking view of Uluru as your backdrop.

At sunset, snacks and a refreshing glass of sparkling wine or beer will be waiting for you at the end of the trail. Or, on the sunrise tour, billy tea and freshly baked beer-bread. You can choose from a number of tours available.
